فجر کی قسم
साक्षी है उषाकाल,
And [by] ten nights
اور دس راتوں کی
साक्षी है दस रातें,
And [by] the even [number] and the odd
اور جفت اور طاق کی
साक्षी है युग्म और अयुग्म,
And [by] the night when it passes,
اور رات کی جب جانے لگے
साक्षी है रात जब वह विदा हो रही हो
Is there [not] in [all] that an oath [sufficient] for one of perception?
اور بے شک یہ چیزیں عقلمندوں کے نزدیک قسم کھانے کے لائق ہیں کہ (کافروں کو ضرور عذاب ہو گا)
क्या इसमें बुद्धिमान के लिए बड़ी गवाही है?
Have you not considered how your Lord dealt with 'Aad -
کیا تم نے نہیں دیکھا کہ تمہارے پروردگار نے عاد کے ساتھ کیا کیا
क्या तुमने देखा नहीं कि तुम्हारे रब ने क्या किया आद के साथ,
[With] Iram - who had lofty pillars,
(جو) ارم (کہلاتے تھے اتنے) دراز قد
स्तम्भों वाले 'इरम' के साथ?
The likes of whom had never been created in the land?
کہ تمام ملک میں ایسے پیدا نہیں ہوئے تھے
वे ऐसे थे जिनके सदृश बस्तियों में पैदा नहीं हुए
And [with] Thamud, who carved out the rocks in the valley?
اور ثمود کے ساتھ (کیا کیا) جو وادئِ (قریٰ) میں پتھر تراشتے تھے (اور گھر بناتے) تھے
और समूद के साथ, जिन्होंने घाटी में चट्टाने तराशी थी,
And [with] Pharaoh, owner of the stakes? -
اور فرعون کے ساتھ (کیا کیا) جو خیمے اور میخیں رکھتا تھا
और मेखोवाले फ़िरऔन के साथ?
[All of] whom oppressed within the lands
یہ لوگ ملکوں میں سرکش ہو رہے تھے
वे लोग कि जिन्होंने देशो में सरकशी की,
And increased therein the corruption.
اور ان میں بہت سی خرابیاں کرتے تھے
और उनमें बहुत बिगाड़ पैदा किया
So your Lord poured upon them a scourge of punishment.
تو تمہارے پروردگار نے ان پر عذاب کا کوڑا نازل کیا
अततः तुम्हारे रब ने उनपर यातना का कोड़ा बरसा दिया
Indeed, your Lord is in observation.
بے شک تمہارا پروردگار تاک میں ہے
निस्संदेह तुम्हारा रब घात में रहता है
And as for man, when his Lord tries him and [thus] is generous to him and favors him, he says, "My Lord has honored me."
مگر انسان (عجیب مخلوق ہے کہ) جب اس کا پروردگار اس کو آزماتا ہے تو اسے عزت دیتا اور نعمت بخشتا ہے۔ تو کہتا ہے کہ (آہا) میرے پروردگار نے مجھے عزت بخشی
किन्तु मनुष्य का हाल यह है कि जब उसका रब इस प्रकार उसकी परीक्षा करता है कि उसे प्रतिष्ठा और नेमत प्रदान करता है, तो वह कहता है, "मेरे रब ने मुझे प्रतिष्ठित किया।"
But when He tries him and restricts his provision, he says, "My Lord has humiliated me."
اور جب (دوسری طرح) آزماتا ہے کہ اس پر روزی تنگ کر دیتا ہے تو کہتا ہے کہ (ہائے) میرے پروردگار نے مجھے ذلیل کیا
किन्तु जब कभी वह उसकी परीक्षा इस प्रकार करता है कि उसकी रोज़ी नपी-तुली कर देता है, तो वह कहता है, "मेरे रब ने मेरा अपमान किया।"
No! But you do not honor the orphan
نہیں بلکہ تم لوگ یتیم کی خاطر نہیں کرتے
कदापि नहीं, बल्कि तुम अनाथ का सम्मान नहीं करते,
And you do not encourage one another to feed the poor.
اور نہ مسکین کو کھانا کھلانے کی ترغیب دیتے ہو
और न मुहताज को खिलान पर एक-दूसरे को उभारते हो,
And you consume inheritance, devouring [it] altogether,
اور میراث کے مال سمیٹ کر کھا جاتے ہو
और सारी मीरास समेटकर खा जाते हो,
And you love wealth with immense love.
اور مال کو بہت ہی عزیز رکھتے ہو
और धन से उत्कट प्रेम रखते हो
No! When the earth has been leveled - pounded and crushed -
تو جب زمین کی بلندی کوٹ کوٹ کو پست کر دی جائے گی
कुछ नहीं, जब धरती कूट-कूटकर चुर्ण-विचुर्ण कर दी जाएगी,
And your Lord has come and the angels, rank upon rank,
اور تمہارا پروردگار (جلوہ فرما ہو گا) اور فرشتے قطار باندھ باندھ کر آ موجود ہوں گے
और तुम्हारा रब और फ़रिश्ता (बन्दों की) एक-एक पंक्ति के पास आएगा,
And brought [within view], that Day, is Hell - that Day, man will remember, but what good to him will be the remembrance?
اور دوزخ اس دن حاضر کی جائے گی تو انسان اس دن متنبہ ہو گا مگر تنبہ (سے) اسے (فائدہ) کہاں (مل سکے گا)
और जहन्नम को उस दिन लाया जाएगा, उस दिन मनुष्य चेतेगा, किन्तु कहाँ है उसके लिए लाभप्रद उस समय का चेतना?
He will say, "Oh, I wish I had sent ahead [some good] for my life."
کہے گا کاش میں نے اپنی زندگی (جاودانی کے لیے) کچھ آگے بھیجا ہوتا
वह कहेगा, "ऐ काश! मैंने अपने जीवन के लिए कुछ करके आगे भेजा होता।"
So on that Day, none will punish [as severely] as His punishment,
تو اس دن نہ کوئی خدا کے عذاب کی طرح کا (کسی کو) عذاب دے گا
फिर उस दिन कोई नहीं जो उसकी जैसी यातना दे,
And none will bind [as severely] as His binding [of the evildoers].
اور نہ کوئی ویسا جکڑنا جکڑے گا
और कोई नहीं जो उसकी जकड़बन्द की तरह बाँधे
[To the righteous it will be said], "O reassured soul,
اے اطمینان پانے والی روح!
"ऐ संतुष्ट आत्मा!
Return to your Lord, well-pleased and pleasing [to Him],
اپنے پروردگار کی طرف لوٹ چل۔ تو اس سے راضی وہ تجھ سے راضی
लौट अपने रब की ओर, इस तरह कि तू उससे राज़ी है वह तुझसे राज़ी है। अतः मेरे बन्दों में सम्मिलित हो जा। -
And enter among My [righteous] servants
تو میرے (ممتاز) بندوں میں شامل ہو جا
अतः मेरे बन्दों में सम्मिलित हो जा
And enter My Paradise."
اور میری بہشت میں داخل ہو جا
और प्रवेश कर मेरी जन्नत में।"
